In the afternoon of September 23, Prof. Ye Jianming, Dean of School of Management, met with Prof. Susan Hart, Dean of Durham University Business School. Prof. Zhou Xing, Dean Assistant, School of Management and Ms. Wang Yasi, Director of International Affairs Office, School of Management attended the meeting.
First of all, Prof. Ye Jianming expressed his warm welcome to Prof. Susan Hart. After the introduction of School of Management, Xiamen University, Prof. Susan Hart said School of Management, Xiamen University is a well-known business school in China, after she succeeded the dean of Durham University Business School, her first job is to visit the partner universities in China including School of management, Xiamen University, one of the most important partner of Durham. The two deans shared and exchanged their views and experience on the international accreditation work of the business school. Prof. Ye Jianming said school of management, Xiamen University attaches great importance on internationalization. Internationalization is also an important evaluation element of accreditation, school of management will keep on improving the curriculum and English taught programs and devote to provide valuable international learning and practical opportunities to students. Prof. Susan Hart shared the accreditation experience and the challenge of Durham University business school, she expressed that although Durham Business school students come from 70 countries and regions, the school still needs to enhance the international courses, joint programs and encourage student exchanges. The business school will integrate the resources and clarify the internationalization strategy, focus on establishing and improving international cooperation with strategic partners.
After that, the two Deans exchanged their opinions regarding the future cooperation. Based on the predominant disciplines of Durham Business School, Prof. Ye Jianming proposed that the two business school could explore more cooperation opportunities on Supply Chain Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, leadership, and marketing disciplines. They both agreed that the cooperation could start from marketing discipline through encouraging joint research and exchange of scholars and Ph. D students. The two schools will also encourage student exchanges in terms of short term study tours and summer camps, and explore the cooperation opportunities like joint degree programs in the future.
At last, the two Deans exchanged gifts and committed to promote the cooperation between two schools, they believed both faculty and students will be beneficial from the cooperation in the near future.
