Theoretical Perspectives on Innovation Management in Emerging Economies

【Abstract】
The COVID 19 pandemic has made a significant impact on the development of global economy, which have initiated uncertainties on countries’ different recovery pathways. The pandemic is not only a global health crisis, but has produced rippling effects to economic, human, and social issues such as: global unemployment and inequality (United Nations 2020). Whilst understanding governments of different countries are all facing grand challenges on the way of discovery, this presentation would try to emphasize the significance of the growth of emerging economies to the global economy in this important era, and to highlight some of the key challenges that face these economies. Through the lens of some of the key international theories and frameworks, this presentation would examine the key implications of innovation management to the development of emerging economies. It also tries to provide insights to managers the best strategies who work in and do business in these markets.

Leanne Chung
(Associate Professor in International Business and Innovation Management at the Cardiff Business School)
Dr. Leanne Chung also serves as the Director and Academic Lead for International Exchange programmes. Her initial training was in Organizational Psychology in Taiwan and Hong Kong, with experience in industry, public sector, and NGO. She obtained the Cambridge’s Overseas Trust Scholarship and St John’s College Funding to study her PhD in International Business and Management at the University of Cambridge. She has extensive university and executive teaching and research experience in Greater China. She was awarded as the Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in UK, with expertise in case studies, large-scale survey and advanced statistical analysis. Her cross-disciplinary and international background has enabled her to embark on new lines of multi-disciplinary research in innovation management. In respect of this application, her publications on China innovation and sustainability management have led to visiting scholar appointments in the top universities in China, France, Italy, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Throughout her career, Dr. Chung has produced scholarship of international standing, as evidenced by her publications at high-impact international journals including the Journal of International Business Studies, British Journal of Management, Management International Review, and the International Journal of Production Economics.
