How to Develop Research and Method Issues

Speaker：Professor SooCheong Jang, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Purdue University

This six-hour seminar is designed to provide an opportunity for masters and doctoral students and faculty members to think about what an academic research really means and how to effectively write academic papers so that the papers can be successfully published. Sharing his own academic paper written and published experiences, Prof. Jang also explains how to develop new research ideas from an interdisciplinary point of view and helps to identify the key components. In addition, Prof. Jang gives a relatively systematic and complete comprehension of research methods, especially for the quantitative method, and stresses out that research methods should coincide with research purposes.The fundamental explanation of research method mainly includes tests, factor analysis, moderating effect and mediating effects.

Two teachers and three doctoral students give presentations of their latest academic research work the following day. The masters and doctoral students and faculty members are also invited to discuss about the topics, methods and research results, and give suggestions for improvement. Prof. Jang gives valuable advice on research structure and shares ideas about essay writing as a research scholar and international journal editor.
